I painted this picture of my dog, Crayon. My acrylics paintings are in a style called Contemporary Impressionism. I loved painting my dog in the playful nature of this style. It was a challenge and I reworked a lot of areas multiple times, but I have a larger-than-life painting of my dog on the wall now and I love it!
I projected a picture I had taken of her onto the canvas to get the outline right, so I didn't have to fuss with proportions and placement of features. I don't think of this as "cheating" I think of it as using the tools I have to create the art I want!
I took a class from the amazing Ali Kay, and this is one of the paintings she taught in the course. Ali paints in a style called Contemporary Impressionism, which I wanted to learn because it's so bold and loose and there's life and movement in her pieces. I think I achieved that here.
Sunflowers are my thing, so I wanted to do a study of this painting multiple times in different sizes to practice various techniques. Each size was challenging in its own ways. I love how they all came out though!
