This is a hardbound book I created by sewing together signatures of paper, attaching pieces of book board to a piece of floral fabric, and gluing a thin purple ribbon into the spine.
I painted the edges of the book with a silver paint to give the finished product an extra special touch, as well as using alternating purple and gray thread on the head and tail bands.

I wanted this book to look like a garden gate. I cut pieces of wood to size, made vertical grooves down the front, stained it, and glued on some fun hardware that I thought made it look pretty legit.
I bound this book using what is called The Secret Belgian Binding. I wanted to try something unique and different, and I really love how it turned out. You can learn more about this bookbinding method in Anne Goy's book, Crisscross binding

The outside of this clamshell book case is made from red and black cloth, and hand-painted paper.
