Bookbinding

Purple Floral

This is a hardbound book I created by sewing together signatures of paper, attaching pieces of book board to a piece of floral fabric, and gluing a thin purple ribbon into the spine.

Special Touches

I painted the edges of the book with a silver paint to give the finished product an extra special touch, as well as using alternating purple and gray thread on the head and tail bands.

An Inside View

Wood Cover

I wanted this book to look like a garden gate. I cut pieces of wood to size, made vertical grooves down the front, stained it, and glued on some fun hardware that I thought made it look pretty legit.

Secret Belgian Binding

I bound this book using what is called The Secret Belgian Binding. I wanted to try something unique and different, and I really love how it turned out. You can learn more about this bookbinding method in Anne Goy's book, Crisscross binding

Hand Painted Case

The outside of this clamshell book case is made from red and black cloth, and hand-painted paper.

Case Interior

This case was built to perfectly fit the paper-cased book I bound.

Paper Binding

This is the book I bound to go inside the clamshell case. It's bound with a sturdy paper cover. I also used a piece of leather as a fastener

Uncut Signatures

This book features deckled edges and uncut signatures.

Japanese Stab Binding

This book was made using the Japanese Stab Binding technique.
